The Leader of the Solomon Islands Party for Rural Advancement, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says the killing of a local man by Regional Assistance Mission officers must not be brushed aside.
RAMSI officials have held a reconciliation ceremony with Titinge village on Honiara's outskirts for the death of a tribesman during a riot early Thursday.
Two soldiers attached to RAMSI allegedly shot him dead after villagers threw rocks at them.
Mr Lilo says there must be a transparent police investigation of this incident.
"And it cannot be brushed aside. These are issues that will have to be considered very carefully. Until that, you know, the way that police have used this, and to try to cover it up with some sort of reconciliation and some form of forgiveness is not the way to go."
Meanwhile, Gordon Darcy Lilo says negotiations are ongoing over the formation of a coalition government following the recent election.
Of all political parties, Mr Lilo's has emerged with the second largest number of seats in the 50 member parliament with 7 MPs.
