Concerns at further wait for selection of Solomons' Prime Minister

2:16 pm on 18 August 2010

Solomon Islanders have another week to wait until a new Prime Minister is named.

Parliament is to meet next Wednesday for the first time since the election two weeks ago.

The 50 MPs will then choose the country's leader but they've split into two camps and it remains unclear which faction will take the Government benches.

Our correspondent, Dorothy Wickham, says the people are annoyed at the ongoing delays and want the politicians to start dealing with the problems affecting the country.

"This is one of the reasons why the Political Party Integrity bill that was not passed in the last sitting of Parliament was so important,. and it's not so good for the country either, because it makes people uneasy about our political stability, and knowing from our history, these are the times when things are said, rumours are carried, accusations are made and that causes instability, especially in a country like ours."
