The attorney for the man accused of the shooting death of American Samoa police detective, Lt. Liusila Brown, has asked for an investigation into claims by his client that he was assaulted by police.

Detective Lusila Brown was shot outside the High Court late last month.

Tautai Aviata Faalevao has told KHJ News that he's requested the Commissioner of Public safety, Tuaolo Fruean, to investigate allegations by Siaumau Siaumau Jr. that when he was taken into custody at the Central police station shortly after the shooting last month, he was badly beaten by officers.

Tautai says his client told him that police officers who were at the central station in Fagatogo assaulted him.

He says Siaumau suffered injuries which are not visible.

Meanwhile, American Samoa governor Togiola Tulafono has ordered all flags in American Samoa be flown half-staff for tomorrow's funeral service of police detective, Lieutenant Liusila Brown.
