A newly elected Solomon Islands MP, Steve Laore, passed away suddenly this morning.
Mr Laore was rushed to the National Referral hospital in Honiara but on arrival he was pronounced dead.
In this month's elections, he had won the Shortlands seat.
Mr Laore was part of the Solomon Islands Reformed Democratic Party of the newly elected prime minister, Danny Philip, who was chosen for the top post when he secured 26 votes in the 50-member parliament.
Our correspondent, Dorothy Wickham, says it's unclear what this means for the new administration.
"We are waiting for official word from the national parliament to explain what will happen with these numbers now and whether that does have any effect on Danny's question of numbers."
