Fiji central banker says economy improving slowly

3:41 pm on 30 August 2010

The governor of Fiji's Reserve Bank, Sada Reddy, says the economy is showing signs of improvement but the speed of recovery is slow.

Speaking to the bank's board, Mr Reddy said the global economy is recovering markedly, which should augur well for Fiji's exports and tourism industry.

He said that should help support the domestic economic recovery.

In a release by the Ministry of Information, Mr Reddy, said while the sugar industry continued to show lacklustre performance, recent data pointed to continued strong growth in visitor arrivals and improvements for the gold and fish sectors.
