The provincial police commander in Papua New Guinea's Oro Province is appealing for the public to come forward with information about an armed hold up of Popondetta's only petrol station.
The station was robbed of more than 18 thousand US dollars by a gang of six armed men last Sunday morning.
Police commander Micah Anaiwe says its the third robbery of the station in nine months, forcing the owners to shut it down.
There have been no arrests and police have few leads, but are asking any members of the public who may have noticed anything suspicious to come forward.
"I'm asking the members of the public who might have any information as to the identity of those involved to come and assist police. It is very important that we get these people. Perhaps that might convince the owner to reopen the service station again. Popondetta is not a very big town. People are bound to know who's involved. For people who are flashing money around and drinking, those are the signs of people who come to have a lot of money in their possession."
Police Commander Micah Anaiwe says fuel can still be bought from a fuel distributor Islands Petroleum or on the roadside, but it's more expensive.
