The Vanuatu Opposition Leader, Maxime Carlot Korman, has called on the Prime Minister, Edward Natapei, and the Finance Minister, Sela Molisa, to resign, saying they've abused their power by misusing government letterhead.
The opposition says Mr Molisa sent a letter requesting the new established French bank, Bank Bred, in Port Vila, to open accounts for a newly incorporated Vanuatu company, California Energy Limited.
California Energy is to be based on Efate and intends importing fuel to sell locally and around the region.
Mr Natapei and Mr Molisa's party, the Vanuaaku Pati, has reportedly been offered shares in the company.
Mr Carlot Korman says it's illegal for the Finance Minister to use the Ministry letterhead for party interests.
He has called for the Ombudsman to investigate.
Meanwhile Mr Molisa says it would be a great help to the investors and the government if the accounts were opened.
He says even if the company is owned by the Vanuaku Party, it's Government policy to try and reduce fuel costs.
