Unpaid CNMI workers worried by power cut threat

12:49 pm on 13 September 2010

Government employees from the Northern Marianas who missed out on receiving their paycheques last Friday are expected to ask for their power supply not to be disconnected.

The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation is to cut power to clients with long overdue bills today.

The Marianas Variety reports that since Friday, those affected had been informing Corporation billing department they wouldn't be able to pay their bills which were due that day.

The Corporation's Chief Financial Officer Charles H Warren says it does not disconnect power on weekends.

Mr Warren says those who received disconnection notices last week should settle their bills today.

He says the nondelinquent clients whose power bills were also due on Friday still have 30 days to pay.

Only government employees providing essential services received their checks on Friday and rest should receive theirs this week.
