Solomons' minister issues warning over illegal fishing

The newly appointed Solomon Islands Fisheries Minister Jimmy Lusibaea has sent a clear warning to foreign fishing vessel operators that they'll be prosecuted if found fishing illegally in Solomons' waters.

Last week, the agents of six Chinese owned vessels were served with letters demanding an explanation for infringements.

The Solomon Star quotes Mr Lusibaea saying he's excited to see different ministries and regional institutions working together.

He says the letters to the vessels' agents give a strong signal to other owners and agents of fleets fishing in Solomons waters that they must abide by the country's laws.
