Investigation underway into allege abuse of funds at the Samoa Red Cross

The board of Samoa's Red Cross Society has appointed an audit committee to investigate allegations of financial abuse by some members of the organisation, including its president.

It comes after a row within the Society in which the president, MP Muagutugatagata Peter Ah Him, was accused of mis-using funds.

Local sources say the investigation will include the spending of tsunami relief funds and look at a four year delay in the auditing of organisation's accounts.

The audit committee is expected to report back in time for the Society's annual general meeting due at the end of this month.
