Despite strong opposition, a decision has been made to allow early voting in the run-off selection of the Cook Islands Democratic Party's candidate in the Ngatangiia electorate on Rarotonga.
This comes after efforts by the incumbent, a former Prime Minister Sir Terepai Maoate, to stop the early votes.
But Sir Terepai's opponent, Mann Short, has successfully argued that all eligible Democratic Party voters in Ngatangiia should have a chance to vote.
To vote in advance, the party members need provide evidence they will not be on the island next Wednesday when the vote will be held.
The run-off comes after a controversy over the earlier selection of Sir Terepai as the Democratic Party candidate.
