1:03 pm on 24 September 2010

Fiji is hosting a training course to improve identification, surveillance and control of the mosquitoes that transmit diseases.

About 25 Ministry of Health staff are being shown by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community how to better identify and monitor the vector mosquitoes, to address two priority diseases, dengue fever and filariasis.

Fiji has several species of mosquitoes that can transmit these diseases and improvements in understanding them will help prevent future outbreaks.
