Tautua Samoa Party delays naming candidates

Tautua Samoa Party has delayed the naming of their candidates for next year's general election.

The party spokesperson, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi, says they'll now unveil their list of candidates after the electoral roll closes early next month.

But he says the name of one of them, Tauiliili Harry Schuster, was released last week, to show the party's calibre of candidates.

Tauiliili's a District Court judge, secretary of the rugby union and a former Manu Samoa player.

Lealailepule says the early release of the judge's name was to act as an incentive to potential candidates who are of two minds whether to join Tautua or not.

He says the party has lost capable candidates, who against their personal wishes, were told by the matai of their constituencies to join the ruling HRPP party.

He says such candidates include the sitting MP Mulipola Oliva and Taefu Lemi, who were handpicked by Faletai and Samatau constituency to replace the Deputy Prime Minister Misa Telefoni as their next MP.
