Radiologists in Guam have welcomed a new bill in the Senate which would require the government to fund annual mammograms for women who can't afford them.
The Guam News Watch reports that Senator Rory Respicio's new breast cancer detection bill is expected to save more lives and cut long-term health care costs.
Doctors Nathaniel Berg and Eric Spak of Guam Radiology Consultants say Senator Respicio's proposal is an important step towards recognising the need for community-wide access to healthcare.
Dr Spak says it has been shown in repeated studies that lives are saved using mammograms to screen patients for early breast cancer.
