Fiji interim PM says 2014 election on track

2:12 pm on 11 October 2010

Fiji's interim Prime Minister says his country is on track for elections in 2014, provided the international community doesn't interfere.

The interim regime plans to focus on so-called political development from 2012 to 2014, including the constitution, which should be developed by 2013.

Commodore Frank Bainimaramama, in his regular appearance on Auckland's Radio Tarana, said Fiji is up to date with the changes that need to be made so far.

"We are on track, hopefully, without the interference of our international friends, but we are on track to 2014 for elections with all the changes that need to be done. And we will bring about these changes as I've continuously said, to modernise and liberalise our economy."
