A Cook Islands MP who laid criminal libel charges against the Cook Islands News and its cartoonist says he's hasn't given up despite the case being dismissed by the High Court.

Member of Parliament Norman George sought damages of more than a million US dollars million against the paper and cartoonist Tim Buchanan for a cartoon that was published of him last month.

Mr George's case was dismissed by Justice Patrick Savage for failing to obtain approval of a judge before filing proceedings which is required for criminal libel cases.
