Former Samoa top politician admits to attempted rape

A former deputy parliamentary speaker in Samoa, Namulau'ulu Vavae Tuilagi, has admitted to one count of attempting to rape a 32-year-old woman last year.

The 62-year-old defendant had originally denied the charges of attempted rape and indecent assault.

However his lawyer has advised the court that Tuilagi had changed his mind.

The indecent assault has been withdrawn by the police after the defendant's change of pleas.

The victim is a relative.

The former politician will be sentenced on November the 22nd.
