US Secretary of State to stop over in American Samoa

9:12 am on 27 October 2010

American Samoa's Congressman has confirmed U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be stopping over in American Samoa next month at the Congressman's request.

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin says the stopover has been a long-time in the making and he appreciates that Secretary Clinton has chosen to refuel in American Samoa.

He says Secretary Clinton made this request a high priority and that she will be stopping over to pay tribute to our veterans and our people.

Faleomavaega says though her visit will be brief, it is an honor for the territory to receive her in conjunction with her travels to Hawaii, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia.

He added that Secretary Clinton has been a good friend of American Samoa and Samoa.

He says she more than anyone stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the two Samoas to provide aid in the aftermath of the tsunami that left untold damage in its wake.
