36 Fiji church ministers no longer face conspiracy charges

The lawyer acting for 36 Methodist Church ministers in Fiji says he is not surprised charges against them were dropped.

The prosecution found there was a lack of evidence to uphold the conspiracy charges which were laid last year.

The ministers were accused of violating the Public Emergency Regulations by holding church meetings.

Aseri Vakaloloma says charges have been upheld against the president of the Methodist Church, the Reverend Ame Tugaue and the Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu.

"Well I cannot say right now whether it will be thrown out or not but let's looks at it positively and let's hope it will be the same as in the other cases."
