American Samoa's veteran Congressman says he knows how to work with a Republican majority controlling the house and says he has never played partisan politics.
Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has been re-elected for a twelfth term as the territory's congressman despite strong support for female opposing candidate Aumua Amata.
Mid-term elections in the US have resulted in the Democrats losing control of the House of Representatives as the Republicans captured 60 seats.
But the Democrats have clung on to the Senate despite losing seats.
Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin says there is a new Congress every two years and he has served American Samoa through thick and thin.
"I've lived through eight years of, of a Congress that was controlled by Republicans and I think I managed pretty well in working well with the Republican majority that we're going to have in the house. As I've said all these years, our representative cannot afford playing partisan politics. You have to be the kind of person that has to work both with Republicans and Democrats."
