American Samoa is to get 6 million US dollars in new money into the local economy, through the federally funded Low Income Housing Tax Credit.

Governor Togiola Tulafono told the first recipients that this is a boost to the local economy and not to keep the money in the bank, but use it.

Togiola says all of the applicants and all those who will be entitled to receive funds must come up with 15 percent of each project.

Overall, he says total project funds that will be made available over the next 12 months will be $36.2 million.

Togiola says this money not only provide homes for low income families, but this new money will help boost the local economy.
