Fiji's Interim Prime Minister has announced that the former Police Commissioner, Commodore Esala Teleni, has been appointed as Ambassador to China.

The interim government says with his extensive security background, Commodore Teleni is well placed to represent Fiji's security needs in the Roadmap for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development.

Radio Fiji says Commodore Teleni is currently attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Suva and is undergoing preparatory briefing.

He replaces Sir James Ah Koy who is due to return at the end of next month.
