Samoa's Savai'i faces power disruption after generators fail

In Samoa, parts of Savai'i Island has been without electricity since the weekend after generators broke down at the main Salelologa Power Station.

Power went down on Saturday night plunging villages from Gataivai to Safotu into darkness.

The faults in the generators then forced the Electric Power Corporation to ration power on the island.

Supply was cut again last night from part of Faga village to Manase.

The government owned Electric Power Corporation says electricity supply will return to normal as soon as parts for the broken generator arrive from overseas.
