The Samoan village of Fusi, Safata, has rejected proposals to develop part of their conserved island on the coastal area for a resort or hotel.

Talamua Online reports the latest party to show interest in building a hotel on the island was led by business woman Vaimasenu'u Zita Martel.

One of the matais from Fusi, Falefata Koale, says a meeting took place between the village councils and the group of investors last Monday.

He says about 90 percent of the village objectedto the project.

He says the villagers would only agree if there is a partnership with the owners and developers.
