The American Samoa Power Authority, or ASPA, will receive over 3 million US dollars in two separate grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The grants, which are part of a nation wide funding awards announced by the U.S. government are to help rural residents in remote areas reduce energy costs.

One will fund an engineering and environmental feasibility study for a renewable energy project to replace generation facilities destroyed by the 2009 tsunami.

Another will establish a bulk fuel revolving fund to reduce credit costs for the territory's bulk fuel purchases.
