Fiji leader urges nation to accept 2011 budget

12:23 pm on 29 November 2010

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has called on the nation to accept the 2011 national budget presented last Friday.

He has told the Fiji Sun newspaper that the budget is his.

The paper says he was reacting to organisations which have criticised the budget after it was announced by the acting interim finance minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Commodore Bainimarama was due to present the budget in his capacity as interim finance minister, but he rescheduled his return from China twice and missed the budget date that had been set.

There is no budget debate because his regime closed parliament as part of the 2006 military coup.
