Samoa feeling added pressure ahead of Sevens title defence

Defending IRB World Sevens Series champions Samoa admit the spotlight is on them ahead of the opening round of the new season, which begins in Dubai on Friday.

Coach Stephen Betham will be without the services of playmaker Uale Mai this season after he signed a contract to play in Spain, while a number of players have only just returned from being on test duty with the Manu Samoa team.

Betham admits there's more pressure coming in as the reigning title holders but says he's trying his best to keep the squad relaxed.

'At the moment we're trying to not put too much pressure on the players. We're trying to let them, you know, be comfortable going into each game and try to keep mistakes at a minimum and play every match like a test.

Samoa play Kenya, Wales and the Arabian Gulf in pool play.
