Samoa feel they can go into the next round of the world sevens series confident of success after beginning their title defence with a second placing in Dubai on the weekend.
The defending series champions had led 14-12 at half time and 21-12 with three minutes remaining, before three late tries clinched England victory 29-21.
Samoa had earlier dispatched Pacific rivals Fiji in their semi-final contest, while England had beaten the reigning Dubai champs, New Zealand.
Stephen Betham says despite not winning the title he felt his side showed some fighting spirit which puts them in good stead for the future.
"That's the aim is to grab as many points as you can each weekend. We've achieved quite a bit today and we'll try to work on it next week. I'm very happy with the way they lifted their games - those who had to come off and start. I think they had to stick together as a team right from the start, when we lost out captain and one of our key players. But we stuck together as a team and just carried on."
The series now moves to George in South Africa this coming weekend.
