Vanuatu's new prime minister, Sato Kilman, will now take part in the Melanesian Spearhead Group's planned reconciliation ceremony in Solomon Islands next week.
The ceremony is aimed at resolving the impasse over the MSG chairmanship between Vanuatu and Fiji after former Vanuatu prime minister, Edward Natapei, decided not to hand the chairmanship to Fiji.
Sato Kilman, who ousted Mr Natapei last week in a no confidence vote, had earlier said he would not attend the ceremony.
But his first political advisor, John Shing, told the Daily Post that after consultation with MSG leaders and Vanuatu government officials, he decided to take part.
Fiji's interim prime minister, Comodore Frank Bainimarama, has already said he will not take part.
Commodore Bainimarama is sending his interim foreign minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, instead.
