Solomons MP arrested on conversion charge

2:14 pm on 10 December 2010

A Solomon Islands MP, David Day Pacha, has been arrested and charged with one count of conversion.

It is alleged that Mr Pacha, as MP for South Guadalcanal, diverted 18,000 US dollars from a micro-project that was approved and funded by Taiwan.

The Solomon Star reports that according to the Public Prosecutor, the charge relates to actions in 2006.

It is alleged that Mr Pacha diverted the money into his constituency bank account and misused the money.

Although previous reports stated that the money was put into a project account, investigations revealed that that particular transaction was never made.
