Fiji and Samoa are both accentuating the positives as the world sevens series heads into a two month hiatus over Christmas and New Year.
Fiji were knocked 26-19 by eventual winners New Zealand in yesterday's cup semi final in George, matching their effort the previous week in Dubai.
Coach Iliesa Tanivula says he's pleased with his teams development ahead of February's Wellington tournament, where Fiji will go in as defending champions.
"We just kept fighting back mate. You know the boys showed a lot of steel in getting back and it was good seeing that and hopefully we will build on it and come back strong. We've got to change a few things and hopefully come back right and compete for the standings in the world series."
Meanwhile Samoa coach Stephen Betham believes his sides first win of the new World Sevens Series is not far away.
The defending world series champs were also bundled out in the semi finals against series leaders England.
Stephen Betham says he expects to have a bit more firepower come the next round.
I think now we've got a bit of depth - I thought some young fellas stepped up. I think for Wellington we should have the services of our key players back. We've already got encouraging signs from physios in New Zealand that Lolo Lui, Reupena and Uale Mai will all be ready for Wellington.
England lead the world series on 44 points, ahead of New Zealand, Samoa and Fiji.
