Fiji Methodists cleared for one-day meetings

The Methodist Church in Fiji says the interim government has dropped its bans on church meetings.

The Church's assistant general secretary, the Reverend Tevita Nawadra, has told FBC News the church has been given approval to hold its annual meeting.

However, the Reverend Nawadra says the meetings should be held in one day.

He says the approval was given by government last week.

Church executives will now meet to decide when to hold the meeting.

The meetings were banned by government last year after the interim regime alleged that political subjects would be discussed that could lead to trouble.
