American Samoa's only airline, Inter Island Air, has this week inaugurated its new Dornier 328 aircraft.

Named Islands of Tonga, the plane was christened by the Reverend Faatui Laolagi who sprinkled the plane's nose with coconut milk.

Guests led by Governor Togiola Tulafono were taken on a 45 minute ride over the islands of Tutuila and Manu'a after the christening.

The 30 seater aircraft made its first commercial flight to Faleolo Airport in Samoa yesterday.

Inter Island hopes to inaugurate services to Tonga early next year and to Fiji and Niue later.
