Acting Vanuatu PM reshuffles new government

6:45 pm on 16 December 2010

There has been a minor cabinet reshuffle in Vanuatu.

The acting prime minister, Ham Lini, sacked the minister of internal affairs, Willie Lop, and appointed Alfred Carlot as the new minister of justice.

Dunstun Hilton, who had been the justice minister, has taken over internal affairs.

The changes were made in the absence of the prime minister, Sato Kilman, who was in Solomon Islands.

The opposition also tried to move a no confidence motion during Mr Kilman's absence.

Mr Carlot, who is the nephew of the speaker of parliament, Maxime Carlot Korman, accused Mr Kilman of being unfair in sharing ministerial portfolios because he appointed three ministers from his home island of Malekula.
