Teenagers in French Polynesia admit to fatal assault

Two teenagers in French Polynesia have admitted to beating a 14-year-old boy to death .

A magistrate says the two confessed that they enticed the boy into a forest in Tahiti with the intention of stealing his bag and cellphone.

His decomposing body was found at the beginning of the month and the two boys, aged 14 and 17, have admitted to having assaulted him.

The prosecution asked for the two boys to be jailed for their own protection.

Pending a court case, the 17-year-old has been sent to the Nuutania jail while the 14-year-old is on remand.

Both could face life in jail.
