France has named Richard Didier as the next High Commissioner to French Polynesia.
Mr Didier is now the prefect of the Upper Loire region.
He will replace Adolphe Colrat who has held the position as top French official in Tahiti for more than two years.
Mr Didier was the French prefect in Wallis and Futuna from 2006 to 2008 after Wallis had seen a rebellion following a failed attempt to remove the king.
