Three groups in American Samoa are urging businesses not to sell alcohol to minors this holiday season.
The Department of Public Safety, Ta'ita'itama Prevent Underage Drinking Initiative and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board have joined together to promote the message.
The groups will be conducting compliance checks of businesses this week.
The First Lady's chief of staff and representative of the Ta'ita'itama Initiative, Toleafoa Kathryn Tupua, says the
checks involve sting operations by police officers and specially trained young people .
They will randomly visit stores to check if they're complying with the law prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors.
The First Lady, Mary Ann Tulafono, children are likely to use alcohol during summertime and holidays when there's minimum adult supervision.
