Faster planes between American Samoa and Samoa add competition

The Chief Executive Officer of Samoa's Polynesian Airlines, Taua Fatu Tielu, says the bigger and faster aircraft introduced by Inter Island will cost his airline customers.

American Samoa's Inter Island's new Dornier 328, which is a 30-seater, will complement its Dornier 288 in flights between Samoa and Pago Pago.

The executive vice president of Inter Island, Barney Sene, says the Dornier 328 is the fastest passenger turbo-prop in its class and makes the trip in 18 minutes compared to the 30 minutes by the Dornier 288.

Taua said Polynesian will have to improve its services in response.

But he says it is still the only airline landing at Fagali'i Airport, which is closer to Apia, making it more convenient for passengers.
