The Fitial administration in the CNMI has asked the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation to spare 20 government offices from being disconnected.

The CUC cut off many government offices from the island's power grid on Tuesday due to unpaid bills amounting to close to US$2.5 million.

Yesterday, the administration classified a list of critical offices and asked that CUC spare them from any power interruption.

The include the Department of Finance, the Emergency Management Office, the Department of Public Health and Department of Corrections.

The CUC's chief financial officer, Charles Warren, says the government made a partial payment yesterday, but refused to disclose the amount paid.
