Sichuan Airlines seeking permission to fly to the CNMI

The Chinese company, Sichuan Airlines, has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to allow it to provide air services between the CNMI and China as early as February this year.

In its application, , the airline said approval of its initial proposal to conduct four weekly flights between points in the People's Republic of China and Saipan "is in the public interest because it will promote foreign travel and tourism to the CNMI."

The CNMI economy relies on air transportation for its tourism industry.
