American Samoa to announce cuts this afternoon

10:31 am on 4 January 2011

American Samoa Governor Togiola Tulafono is meeting again with the Treasurer and Director of Human Resources to go over the government's finances before making a decision on further cuts and cost savings.

Treasurer Magalei Logovii says they are meeting with the governor this morning and he will then call an emergency cabinet meeting this afternoon to announce his decision.

A third round of discussions was held last Thursday to go over numbers and details of how much savings would be generated from each option under consideration.

Aside from the reduction in hours, the governor announced last week he was looking at a 30% reduction in force for locally funded operations, and selling off vehicles and equipment purchased with local funds.
