A former Papua New Guinea deputy prime minister, Don Polye says he remains a committed member of the ruling National Alliance, despite speculation of a plot to install him as Prime Minister.
There have been reports that a motion of no confidence could be presented when parliament meets on Tuesday to elect a new governor general.
Another former deputy Prime Minister Sir Puka Temu is reportedly pushing for the motion to be used to oust Sir Michael Somare, who has stepped aside pending an investigation into misconduct charges, and replace him with Mr Polye.
But Mr Polye has told the National newspaper he will always strive to uphold the policies of the National Alliance.
He says he also condemns actions of members of the National Alliance camp who may have created the potential of destroying the party, but declined to name them.
