The Malaita Provincial Assembly in Solomon Islands has elected Edwin Suibaea as the new provincial premier for a four year term.
Mr Suibaea won 17 of the 33 votes to defeat Richard Irosaea.
Speaking after his victory, Mr Suibaea said he is confident of leading the province in the next four years with a new reform agenda that is aimed at getting rid of the impediments that hinder the growth of Malaita.
