Hundreds of mourners have gathered in Canterbury Cathedral in England at a memorial service for a Fijian soldier killed in Afghanistan on New Year's Day.

Private Joseva Vatubua, from Suva, died serving the British Army's Royal Regiment of Scotland, currently based in Canterbury, Kent.

As a member of a British Army Fijian Choir, Private Vatubua had sung in Canterbury Cathedral, the mother church of the Anglican Communion.

Earlier this week his body was flown back to Fiji.

Private Vatubua, who attended Laucala Bay Secondary School in Fiji, joined the British Army in 2007.
