Coral reef and mangrove ecosystems, human settlement and infrastructure, public health and food security are the main topics to be discussed at a climate change summit in American Samoa this week.
About 150 scientists, policy makers, health officials and members of the private sector from the Pacific region and the US mainland will meet on the 1st and 2nd of February.
Hideyo Hattori from the Government's Coral Reef Advisory Group, says participants will be split into four groups to discuss the impact of climate change on the main topics.
"The working groups will work individually to develop recommendations for the territory and those will be synthesised into a master document and management plan that will eventually steer the deliberations and tasks the next steps for the territory to address climate change."
Hideyo Hattori says the aim of the summit is to raise public awareness, determine how to prepare against the effects of climate change and build partnerships.
