Six candidates for Tonga's Parliamentary Election last year, who failed to lodge an election spending statement, have been fined US$270 each at the Fasi Magistrate's Court.

The Matangi Tonga website said the candidates pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate ordered that they pay the fine within one month for failing to lodge an election spending statement to the Supervisor of Elections within 14 days from the election in November.

Five others failed to appear in court and one candidate's case was deferred.

None of the candidates won seats in the election.
