Fiji sugar production shows substantial decline in past season

Figures released by the Fiji Sugar Corporation reveal a substantial decline in the country's 2010 sugar production.

The Corporation says less than 1 point eight million tonnes of cane was crushed in 2010 compared to 2 point two million tonnes in 2009.

The FBC reports total sugar production for 2010 stood at just over 133 thousand tonnes compared to 168 thousand tonnes a year earlier.

The Corporation also reports it took an average of 13.4 tonnes of cane to produce a tonne of sugar.
