American Samoan official dies

The American Samoa Government's Chief Procurement Officer, Tauiliili Pat Tervola has died.

Tauiliili was admitted to the LBJ Hospital on Tuesday after he suffered a stroke while driving home.

He was in a coma and had not regained consciousness when he died.

Tauiliili was an educator by profession and was principal of Samoana High School in the mid 1980's.

He later joined the government Procurement Office and was Deputy Director for more than two decades.

In 2009 Governor Togiola Tulafono appointed him as Chief Procurement Officer.

He was also a well known musician and performed at Samoa's first international jazz festival in Apia with the Samposium band last year.
