Two men have died in an accident on board a fishing vessel which is now heading to American Samoa.

According to the boat's local agents, KS Shipping, the men were killed after a power block which is used to reel in fishing nets collapsed and fell on crew members of the purse seiner, Betty C.

A 24 year old man from Ecuador was killed instantly and an older man from Peru died later.

American Samoa police had few details of the accident but it's believed other crew were also injured.

The vessel is expected to arrive in American Samoa tonight and the local coast guard will investigate the incident.
