Solomons' deputy opposition sues for defamation over intelligence report

2:34 pm on 11 February 2011

The Solomon Islands deputy opposition leader says he's filing a defamation suit over what he's calling a fabricated intelligence report.

The Solomon Star reports Matthew Wale is filing the suit against the Prime Minister Danny Philip and his press secretary Alfred Sasako for alleging in the report that Australia and the Regional Assistance Mission are backing the Opposition to topple the government.

Mr Wale says the report was concocted to divide the opposition and boost the numerical strength of the government.

Alfred Sasako says he welcomes the law suit.
